Four Argonauts Selected to All-GSC Men's Soccer Team

All Four Players Earn All-GSC First Team Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four first time All-GSC players highlighted the list for the West Florida men’s soccer team on the All-Gulf South Conference Team announced by the conference office on Wednesday.  Senior Daniel Martini led the way for UWF, and he was joined by juniors Frank Cope, Sean Reynolds and Marquel Waldron.  Finally, UWF’s Nick Salafrio was named GSC Freshman of the Year, becoming the third Argonaut to win the honor and the first since Keith Savage in 2003.

Martini (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Penn State) was one of three forwards selected to the All-GSC first team.  The senior leads the Argonauts this season with eight goals, and he also had added four assists and 20 points.  Of Martini’s eight goals, five have been game-winners this season, including three in GSC play.  Martini was one of three Argonauts and five total players that earned unanimous selections.

Cope (Mobile, Ala./UMS-Wright Preparatory School) and Reynolds (Fort Walton Beach, Fla./Fort Walton Beach HS) were both selected as midfielders for UWF.  Cope, a unanimous selection, has scored two goals with a team-best eight assists this year, while Reynolds has scored three goals with one assist.  Both players performed well in GSC play this season, as Cope tallied four assists against conference opponents and Reynolds scored three goals.  Reynolds also had two game-winners in GSC play.

Waldron (Warwick, Bermuda/Saltus Grammar School) has captained the UWF defense this year, as the Argos have allowed just 23 goals in 18 games (1.28 per game).  The Argos back line has also allowed just 9.8 shots per game.  Waldron, a unanimous pick, has also been active in the attack, scoring two goals and adding five assists from the back line.

Salafrio (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) has been a high energy player for UWF in the midfield this year, starting each of the last 12 games.  The freshman scored in his collegiate debut in a 2-1 win over Lynn, and his other two goals this year came against Christian Brothers and Mobile.

The Argonauts will look for their fifth straight GSC championship at the conference tournament at Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla. this weekend.  UWF kicks off in the semifinals against Alabama-Huntsville at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, and fans can follow all of the action live at www.GoArgos.com.
