Four Nebraska-Kearney Players Named to SID All-Region Team

One on First-Team, Three on Second-Team
All First Time Selections

Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney football players Mason Brodine, Arthur Hobbs, Sam Kuck and Orion Matthies have been named to the 2010 Daktronics Super Region # 3 team.

Sports information directors from within the region nominate and vote on the makeup of the team. A first and second team is chosen (50 players total) with first team picks moving on to the national ballot where they could earn All-American honors.

Super Region # 3 is made up schools in the RMAC, NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) and GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) as well as several independents.

Matthies (Overton), UNK's right tackle the past four years, joined Chadron State kicker Michael Ziola as the only RMAC players chosen first-team offense. Selected second-team defense were Brodine (DE/Elm Creek), Hobbs (CB/San Diego, Calif.) and Kuck (S/Central City).

This is the first time any of the Lopers have made this specific all-region team.

Matthies, a unanimous first-team All-RMAC pick, blocked for an offense that averaged 35.3 points and 445 yards per game. A two-year starter at defensive end, Brodine made 46 tackles this year, including a team-best 5.5 sacks. He also had 10 QB hurries and two blocked kicks.

In his first year as a starting free safety, Kuck had 76 tackles, three INT's, two forced fumbles and three pass breakups in 10 games played. A transfer from Grossmont (Calif.) College, Hobbs had 60 tackles, to go along with two INT's and 12 pass breakups.

Minnesota-Duluth senior running back Isaac Odim was tabbed as the region's Offensive Player of the Year while Colorado School of Mines senior end was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

UNK went 9-2 in 2010, tying for the RMAC title with an 8-1 league record.
