MARS HILL, N.C. – The Coker women’s basketball team was upended by the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 76-45 in their first game of the Mars Hill Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday night. Freshman Nikki Grigsby (Las Vegas, Nev.) was the Cobras leading scorer in the game with nine points.
Coker struggled to maintain possession committing 32 turnovers leading to 24 Bear points. The Cobras shot an outstanding 80 percent from the charity stripe, compared to just 67 percent for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Megan Thomas (Cresskill, N.J.) and Janell Dunham (Bear, Del.) each scored eight points with three rebounds for Coker.
The Cobras will take on the host school Mars Hill College on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in their next game of the tournament.
