Anderson Races to Runner-Up Finish at PSAC Championship

California, Pa. – For the second year in a row a Millersville women’s cross country runner finished as the PSAC Championships. Junior Elicia Anderson (Wrightsville/Eastern York) ran her second fastest time of this season to take second place and All-PSAC honors and helped lead her team to a fifth-place finish.

Despite the muddy and wet conditions, Anderson was able to finish in a time of 22:02--two-minutes faster than she ran at the PSAC Championships last year. She followed in the footsteps of former standout Priscilla Jennings, who placed second in similar fashion.

Like Jennings, Anderson finished behind Shippensburg’s highly-successful Neely Spence who collected her third-straight individual PSAC Championship. Spence recorded a time of almost a full minute faster than last year and finished with a time of 20:52.

Anderson also managed to out-run Shippensburg's Mary Dell by 12 seconds. Dell, who had edged Anderson for second place in two previous meets this season, posted a time of 22:14. The Lady Raiders took their third-straight team title by placing five runners in the top nine. Millersville finished in fifth with 146 points--just 40 out of second.

Senior Emily Francisco (Bangor/Bangor) was the second Marauder to finish, placing 25th with a time of 23:46. Following Francisco was Rebekah Moore (Harleysville/Christopher Dock), who ran a time of 23:22 giving her 36th place. Senior Samantha Mulvey (Pottstown/Exeter) finished 40th by running a time of 24:33, and sophomore Michelle Blum (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) followed in 43rd with a time of 24:37.

Anderson and the Marauders now prepare for the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships in two weeks. A berth to the national championships will be on the line for both individuals and the team. The Atlantic Regional is held in Cary, N.C., on October 20, at 11 a.m.
