Volleyball Treats Sharks To Straight-Set Victory

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Kala Abdell recorded a double-double to lead the Lynn University volleyball team to a three-set victory (25-21, 25-15, 25-21) over Nova Southeastern Sunday afternoon at NSU arena.  Lynn improves to 18-7 overall and 9-3 in the Sunshine State Conference while NSU falls to 8-15 and 3-9 in conference play.

Abdell hit .280 for the match on 11 kills in 25 swings and recorded 11 digs.  Katie Bradley, Haley Pratt and Chelsey Semprini all had seven kills apiece while Devon Woolard collected 25 assists and eight digs.

Defensively, Lynn outhit NSU, .245 to .127 while recording eight total blocks.  Pratt and Sophie Gagnon, who are first and second in blocks in program-history, both had four blocks apiece.  Lacy Redwine tallied 12 digs and is now five digs away from tying the school’s all-time record.

Lynn took the first set, 25-21, in a capacity that describes their entire season to a ‘T’: well-balanced offense with well-timed defense.  Bradley led the squad with four kills while Abdell, Pratt and Semprini all with three.  Pratt stepped up in the conclusion of the opener with a pair of kills and a block to seal the victory.

Pratt had a perfect second set to lead the Blue & White to a 25-15 win.  The senior from Greenwood, Ind., recorded a 1.000 hitting percentage with three kills on three swings with zero errors.  She also tallied a block assist to finish with 3.5 points in the frame as Lynn outhit NSU, .208 to .053.

A native of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., Abdell tallied a pair of kills and a block assist as Lynn jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third set, forcing a Sharks timeout.  However, the Sharks would give the Fighting Knights a spook, cutting the lead to two at 22-20, before kills by Abdell and Bradley clinched the win.

LU (18-7, 9-3 SSC) closes out the home portion of its schedule with dates with conference rivals Eckerd and Tampa.  The Tritons come to town Friday, November 5, at 7 pm, while the Spartans are in Boca Saturday, November 6, at 7 pm.
