Spartans Defeat SCAD In Women's Swimming Action

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's swimming team remained perfect on the season, defeating Savannah College of Art & Design by a 147-107 score. The Spartan men fell by a 143-119 count.

The UT women started the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Ellie Eshleman, Michelle Walcker, Lindsay Calimer and Amy O'Brien topped competition with a time of 1:49.09.

Tampa claimed first-place showings in nine individual women's races, including Heather Glenday in the 200 Free (1:57.35) and 1,000 Free (10:41.62), Eshleman in the 100 Back (59.60) and 200 Back (2:10.43), Catherine Patrell in the 200 Fly (2:14.53), O'Brien in the 50 Free (25.11), Kristine Kassl in the 100 Free (54.76), Lisa Bero in the 200 Breast (2:26.96) and Lindsay Calimer in the 100 Fly (59.49).

On the men's side, Chris O'Linger led UT with a pair of top finishes, winning the 200 Fly (1:58.14) and 200 IM (1:58.94). Andrew Johnson won the 100 Back (54.46) as Jeff Fiore was first in the 100 Free (48.72).

Tampa heads to Saint Leo University for its first road contest of the 2010-11 season on Saturday. The meet is scheduled for 10 a.m.
