ROCK HILL, SC -- The Catawba College women’s soccer team will travel to Wingate for its opening match of the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday. The conference office announced the pairings on Sunday. The Lady Indians dropped a 2-1 decision at Wingate in the regular-season meeting.
Catawba tied for fifth in the season standings and drew the sixth seed based on its loss to Wingate. Mars Hill, who also finished fifth, battled Wingate to a 2-2 tie. Catawba gave up two early goals in its loss to the Bulldogs.
Lenoir-Rhyne is the top seed after sharing the league crown with Carson-Newman. The Bears earned the top seed by virtue of its 2-1 victory over Carson-Newman in the regular season. L-R will face eighth-seed Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman will host seventh-seed Tusculum and Mars Hill will travel to fourth-seeded Newberry to round out the quarterfinal matches.
Quarterfinal winners advance to the tournament semifinals, which will be held at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex in Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday, November 5. The two women's semifinals will be played at 3 p.m. The women's tournament championship will be Sunday, November 7 at 1 p.m. The championship match will be video streamed live over the Internet.
Admission to all Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament events is $5 for adults and $2 for college students and children 13 and under. Fans showing their Food Lion MVP card can save $1 off the adult admission price. Also, the South Atlantic Conference is collecting new, unused soccer balls, footballs or basketballs during the semifinals and championships in conjunction with WRHI's Toys for Happiness campaign for Christmas gifts for underprivileged children. Fans donating a ball will receive two complimentary admissions.
