Mars Hill falls to Anderson, 74-63

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team erased a double-digit halftime deficit with a 20-7 run to open the second half, but Anderson held on for a 74-63 win. The Trojans improve to 4-2 overall, 2-0 in the SAC. The Lions fall to 5-2 overall, 1-1 in the league.

Anderson's Alexa Neal led all scorers with 19 points. Ashley Abed added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Alissa Diaz followed up with 10 points.

Diaz and Neal, with an old-fashioned three-point play, gave the Trojans an early 9-3 lead three minutes into the game. Anderson led for most of the first half and grabbed its first double-digit lead (40-29) with five seconds remaining off a trey by Amanda Parris.

Mars Hill opened the second half on fire and whittled the deficit to 44-43 off a layup by Tyler Carlson. Carlson and Brittini Young scored all of Mars Hill's points in the first 11:23 of the second half. A Young layup with 10:43 left in the game gave the Lions the upper hand, 49-47.

Anderson responded with a 6-0 run, and Mars Hill never regained the lead. The Trojans led by as many as 13 points (70-57) with 1:43 remaining off a shot from behind the arc by Neal.

Young finished the game with 18 points. Carlson added 15 points, while Jocelyn Williams had 10 points.

Anderson was 10-24 from three-point range, while Mars Hill was 6-19.

Mars Hill will host King on Thursday, December 16. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
