Bloomfield Hands Cougars a 104-80 Loss in Men's Hoops

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost to Bloomfield College, 104-80 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday night at Bloomfield Gymnasium. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Deacons improve to 3-3, 1-0 CACC.

Bloomfield broke open a close game by turning a 13-12 deficit into a 42-18 lead with a monumental 30-5 run in the first half. Gage Daye scored 10 points and Ryan Rodrigues had eight points in the run, which saw the Cougars shoot 2-of-16 from the field and turn the ball over seven times. The Deacons eventually took a 60-33 lead at the half after shooting 60.0 percent from the floor, including 7-of-8 from three-point range. Daye notched 20 points in the half, while Rodrigues hit all four of his attempts from beyond the arc en route to 16 points.

Caldwell made a push in the second half, outscoring Bloomfield 26-12 over the first eight minutes of the period to cut the deficit to 13 points, 72-59. Senior forward Antonio Brimley (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Eastside) scored nine points during the run. But the Cougars were unable to get any closer, as the Deacons ran away with their sixth consecutive victory over Caldwell. Bloomfield remained hot from long range, making 10 of its 13 three-point attempts for the game compared to 4-of-12 for the Cougars.

Brimley paced Caldwell with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while junior guard Nik Otovic (Kraljevo, Serbia) had 14 points. Sophomore guard Robert McPherson (Bowie, MD/Bullis) pitched in with 11 points, while senior guard Dante Rollins (East Orange, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) added 10 points. Daye ended up with 33 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Bloomfield, with Rodrigues making all five of his three-point attempts en route to 23 points.

The Cougars continue CACC play with a home game against Dominican College on Saturday, Dec. 11. The game starts at 8:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
