Junior outside hitter Jackie Matthisen led UAA (16-8, 11-5 GNAC) with 10 kills, but little else went right for the 7th-ranked team in the NCAA Div. II West Region.
Outside hitters Kady Try and Meg Ryan led CWU (12-9, 10-6) with 11 kills apiece as the Wildcats kept alive their hopes of a third-place Great Northwest Athletic Conference finish.
The loss offiically eliminated the defending GNAC-champion Seawolves from this year's title race.
UAA led 15-12 in the first set and was tied 14-14 in the second set before CWU closed both frames with huge runs. The Seawolves fell behind 9-1 in the third set and never recovered as they were swept for just the second time this season.
Freshman middle blocker Robyn Burton and sophomore right-side hitter Marie Borowikow tallied six kills apiece, while freshman libero Quincy Haught posted a team-high eight digs in the loss.
The Seawolves, who must finish among the top seven or eight teams in the region to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, finish the regular season with a pair of home matches next week. UAA hosts last-place Saint Martin's on Thursday, Nov. 11 and Western Oregon on Saturday, Nov. 13. WOU defeated UAA 3-1 in the teams' GNAC season-opener way back on Sept. 9 and is currently tied with UAA for third place in the 10-team league.
