UNK Athletics: Football, Volleyball Starters Named Academic All-District

Dring, Heiserman, Kuck & Svec ;  Two on 1st Team, Two on 3rd Team 

Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney football players Rustin Dring and Sam Kuck, along with starting volleyball players Cola Svec and Katlyn Heiserman, have been named to their respective sports CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 7 team. 

To be eligible, a student-athlete must carry a 3.33 cumulative GPA and been enrolled at their current school for one academic year. Sports information directors from within the district then vote on the makeup of the team.  District 7 includes NCAA Division II & III schools in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, the Dakotas, Colorado and Montana.

In football, Dring (Kearney H.S.) and Kuck (Central City) both made the first-team and will now move onto the national ballot where they could earn Academic All-American honors.  Svec (Elkhorn) and Heiserman (Manchester, Ia.) both were chosen to the third-team. 

One of Division II's top running backs, Dring maintains a 3.42 GPA in Industrial Distribution. Battling two different injuries this year, he currently is averaging 122.7 yards per game with six total TD's.  

A starting free safety, Kuck has made 61 tackles and picked off three passes this fall. Having a 3.64 GPA in Business Administration, he leads the Lopers in INT's and is second in tackles. 

Running UNK's offense from the setter position, Svec is averaging an impressive 11.90 assists and 3.46 digs per set. In the class room, the four-year starter has a 3.56 GPA in Business Administration. Finally, Heiserman is one of the RMAC's top defensive players and is currently averaging 5.16 digs per set.  An Exercise Science major, she has a 3.66 cumulative GPA.
