Schedule released for reigning CCAA Champion track & field teams

Wildcats host four meets in 2011

The Chico State men and women’s track and field teams have released their schedules for 2011 and, without a doubt, have high expectations for the upcoming season with both squads attempting to defend last season’s California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) titles.

The men’s team will be looking for their eighth consecutive CCAA Championship under Kirk Freitas, who begins his 31st year as head coach. Freitas has now led the ‘Cats to four straight top 10 finishes at the NCAA National Championships, including last year’s eighth-place finish.

Head Coach Oliver Hanf, who begins his 13th season at the helm, led the 2010 women’s squad to an 18th-place finish at the NCAA National Championships. The women’s highlights at nationals included Katrina Rodriguez’s national pole vault title.

The Wildcats will begin their 2011 season with the Wildcat Relays on February 26th in Chico. They’ll also host the Chico Multi heptathlon and decathlon competition March 3-4, the Chico Distance Carnival on April 8, and the Chico Twilight Invitational on April 9.

The Wildcats will attempt to defending their CCAA titles at Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock May 5-7 and then return to Turlock for the NCAA Championships May 26-28.
