Minnesota State Dominates Huskies 3-1 in NSIC Tournament

Brittany Henry Scores Two Goals

Mankato, Minn.-- The fourth-seeded Minnesota State soccer team was able to gain the 3-1 victory over fifth-seeded St. Cloud State in the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Tournament.

The Mavericks Laura Leber was able to put away the ball in front of the Husky goal midway through the first half, good for her eighth goal of the season and the 41st of her career. The Leber goal was assisted by Nicole Dooher, giving her eight assists on the season.

Brittany Henry scored twice for the Mavericks, in the 31st and 65th minutes and to put the Mavericks up two. Brianne West was credited with the assist for the first Henry goal, with Leber earning the assist on the last one. Henry now has a team-leading 12 goals and one assist, good for 25 points this season. Henry now has four two-goal games this season. Henry and Dooher each ended the day with three shots on goal.

The Huskies Alexandra Pafko would break the MSU shutout, scoring her tenth goal at 89:23, on a header after a free kick by Jessica Pafko. The Mavericks outshot the Huskies 17-12 when the buzzer rang. The Mavericks placed nine shots on goal, while St. Cloud reached five.

Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Cygan made four saves on the day, letting up one goal in the last moments of the game. Cygan improves her save percentage to .760 and holds a 1.24 goals against average.

MSU improves its record to 11-7-1 on the season. Minnesota State will play Friday at 3 p.m., against the winner of Winona State and Upper Iowa at the highest remaining seeds home field.
