Men's swimming jumps into national poll at No. 13

Queens women's team receives votes

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- In the first TYR/CSCAA College Swimming and Diving Poll of the 2010-2011 season the Queens University of Charlotte men’s swimming team received its first-ever national ranking with a starting spot of No. 13. The rankings were made by the members of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

“To be ranked this early in the program’s history is a great starting point,” said Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach Jeff Dugdale. “The student-athletes have been working hard to improve with every meet and they are hitting their marks. If we continue to progress they way we have so far this season, the program will continue to rise at an exceptional rate.”

As a team, Queens (3-3) has won three meets, two duals and a Relay invitational.

Jeremy Gregory holds four top-10 times in all of Division II in the events of 100-meter butterfly, seventh, the 200-meter butterfly, fourth, the 200-meter individual medley, sixth, and the 400-meter individual medley, fourth. In each event Gregory has posted a NCAA “B” cut standard time.

Christian Yeatts (Charlotte, N.C.) is ranked fifth in the 1000-meter freestyle event, also a “B” cut.

Within the conference, Bluegrass Mountain, Queens holds seven fastest times and overall has 17 other top-10 times.

Queens is the second highest Bluegrass Mountain Conference school ranked. Only Wingate placed higher in 10th with 273 votes. The Royals received 197 in 13th place, but just one vote separated them and the No. 12 team Indianapolis.

The women’s team received four votes in the poll.

The next ranking will be released on Dec. 15.

The Royals will swim on Saturday against Washington and Lee in Lexington, Va. The meet starts at 2pm.
