GSC Announces Football Players of the Week

OBU’S CRANOR, HU’S ALDRIDGE AND ATU’S JONES NAMED GSC FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Ouachita Baptist quarterback Eli Cranor (SR, 6-1, 210, Russellville, AR), Harding defensive end Josh Aldridge (SO, 6-1, 225, Jackson, TN) and Arkansas Tech placekicker/punter Cody Jones (FR, 6-3, 185, Lexington, TN) are the Gulf South Conference Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for the period ending November 13th.

Cranor earns his first-ever award after leading OBU to a 52-34 victory at in-state rival Southern Arkansas.  The senior combined for 296 total yards, running for 124 yards on 22 carries and passing for 172 yards on 15-of-16 attempts.  He also ran for two touchdowns and tossed one scoring pass.  The Russellville, AR native tied the GSC single-game record for completion percentage (93.8), becoming the first player since Valdosta State’s Lance Funderburck in 1993 to accomplish the feat.  Cranor’s effort also set the schoo’sl single-season record for passing yards (2,570) and total offense (3,083).

Aldridge is the fourth different HU defender to claim accolades this season, spearheading the Bisons’ defense in a 29-28 home upset of No. 15 North Alabama.  The sophomore racked up five total tackles, led by four solo stops, 3.0 tackles for a loss of 19 yards and 2.0 sacks for 17 yards.  The Jackson, TN did not stop there, also forcing two UNA fumbles.  His effort also helped set the school record for sacks in a season (43).

Jones is ATU’s first Special Team honoree of the season, excelling in all aspects of his kicking duties for the Wonder Boys in a 42-14 home triumph over Southwest Baptist.  The freshman was perfect as a placekicker, going 4-for-4 on point-after kick attempts, while also hitting 2-for-2 on field goal tries.  The Lexington, TN native booted six punts for 223 yards (37.2 avg.), led by three punts which were downed inside the 20-yard line.
