Ethan Swope (Luthersburg, Pa./DuBois Area) had arguably the best day, winning three of five matches in the 149-pound division. The redshirt junior suffered a loss in the opening round, before rolling off three consecutive victories. The final two came against Division I wrestlers in Princeton’s Brandon Rolnick and Lehigh’s Kyle Rosser. The run came to an end with a loss to Brown’s Giuseppi Lanzi.
Four Golden Knights went 2-2 during Sunday’s action. Jose Matos (Williamstown, N.J./St. Augustine College Preparatory School) went 2-2 with two pins at 125. The junior pinned Seton Hill’s Andrew Polidore (6:03) and Princeton’s Andrew Hirai (6:19). He was eliminated with a tight 3-2 loss to Rider’s Tim Trivisonno.
Matt Turek (Madison, Ohio/Madison) also went 2-2 at 125 while wrestling unattached. The true freshman dominated Brockport State’s Kevin O’Hagan 17-6 in the opening match and secured a second win in the wrestlebacks with an 18-10 decision against Notre Dame’s Brian Dean.
Sean Floor (Westbrookville, N.Y./Port Jervis) joined Matos for the team lead with two pins on the day. The redshirt sophomore dropped a first-round battle, before recording consecutive pins in the wrestlebacks against Lock Haven’s Dylan Caprio (4:59) and Columbia’s Ryan Doyle (1:21). His day came to an end with a loss to Princeton’s Daniel Kolodzik.
Chris Santucci (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) recovered from a first-round loss to go 2-2 in the 133-pound weight class. The redshirt senior nipped Penn’s Zach Ellis 9-8 and Drexel’s Garth Mahosky 15-10 during the wrestlebacks.
Other Golden Knights to secure victories included Adam Weinell (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) at 125, Mike Krysiak (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) at 149, Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) at 165 and Terry Sedney (Erie, Pa./McDowell) at 197. All four wrestlers went 1-2 in their respective weight classes.
Gannon returns to action Saturday, November 20 at the National Catholic Invitational hosted by Mercyhurst College.
