First-Place Flagler Halts Armstrong's Seven Match Win Streak

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Flagler volleyball squad halted host Armstrong's seven-match win streak with a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference victory on Wednesday evening in Savannah. Game scores were: 25-18, 25-21, 25-23.

The Saints (22-7, 12-1 PBC) stretched their own win streak to six - and to nine in PBC play - with the victory, while the Pirates (17-12, 6-6 PBC) suffered their first loss since Oct. 13.

After a relatively easy first set, the Saints found themselves trailing the Pirates 19-14 in the second set, but Flagler outscored Armstrong 11-2 the rest of the way to claim the second-set victory. With the third set tied 23-23, Dianna Crane came up with back-to-back kills to clinch the match for the visitors.

Senior Gwen Clarke led the Pirates on the evening, hitting .391 with a team-high 11 kills. Freshman Jessica Santaniello added nine kills, while freshman Megan Pando tallied a match-high 35 assists and junior Stacey Davis collected 14 digs.

The PBC's leader in kills, Meg Weathersby led the Saints by hitting .375 with 11 kills to go with 13 digs. Olivia Snipes and Rebecca Royal each notched 14 assists and Crane finished the match with a team-high 16 digs for Flagler.

The Pirates return to action on Friday, October 29, traveling to Francis Marion for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Patriots in Florence, S.C.
