COLORADO SPRINGS - Metro State's men's soccer team placed five players on the all-conference list for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Tuesday, headlined by RMAC Player of the Year Steven Emory. Emory joined Tyler Wilson and Issa Bissau on the first team, while Scott Grode and Chris Yoder made up the second team.
Emory, a senior midfielder from Fort Collins, Colo., earned player of the year honors for the second straight season. A year ago, he also earned Daktronics second team All-America honors. He was also a second team All-RMAC honoree as a sophomore in 2008.
This season, Emory has 15 goals and 10 assists, leading the team in both categories and marking just the fourth time in school history a Roadrunner player has reached double digits in both of those categories. He currently has a streak of nine consecutive games with at least one point, breaking the previous school record of seven. He also broke the school record with six consecutive games with at least one assist. He was the only player in the conference to finish in the top five in the RMAC in goals, assists and points this season in conference games, ranking second in all three categories.
Wilson, a senior defender from Aurora, Colo., has been the team's top defender for the past couple of seasons. This year, he has a plus/minus rating of +30 and scored his first career goal at Colorado Christian on Sept. 24. He also has an assist for three points. Despite battling injuries this season, he has started 14 games. The Roadrunners are just 1-3 when Wilson has not been in the lineup. Last year he was a third team All-RMAC selection.
Bissau, a sophomore goalkeeper from Denver, has a 0.82 goals against average, .831 save percentage and a 10-4-1 record with eight solo shutouts. He led the RMAC in shutouts in conference games and finished second in goals against average and save percentage.
Grode, a junior forward from Gilbert, Ariz., is second on the team with 10 goals and 24 points, while adding four assists. In conference games, he led the RMAC in shot attempts and finished fourth in goals and fifth in points. Last year he was named third team All-RMAC.
Yoder, a junior midfielder from Gilbert, Ariz., is fifth in goals and points for the Roadrunners, scoring three goals with two assists for eight points. Known for his defense, he is second among Metro State midfielders with a +26 plus/minus rating.
The Roadrunners open the RMAC Tournament at home on Wednesday against Mesa State at 2:30 p.m.
