Women's Soccer: Dominican 4, AAU 0

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team returned home from Hawai'i with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Academy of Art University at Forest Meadows Field on Saturday.
The Lady Penguins, who wore special pink jerseys that were auctioned off at halftime for charity, dominated the field, firing off 10 shots on goal, compared to just one by AAU.

Senior Bridget Folan started the scoring for Dominican (7-8-1/6-5-1) less than 10 minutes into the match. From there, it turned into the Julianna Bratsberg show. Bratsberg scored on a penalty kick a minute before halftime to give the Lady Penguins a 2-0 lead going into the intermission. Two minutes into the second half, Shayna Elkins found Bratsberg and in the 63rd minute Folan teamed up with Bratsberg for the sophomore's third goal of the day.

Dominican keeper Megan Herring kept the only ball that came her way out of the net but had an eventful day tracking down several wet and muddy soccer balls that bounced her direction. The shutout was Herring's fifth of the season.

The auction for the pink jerseys, which featured white and black numbering and the Penguin logo over the heart, raised over $3,000 between the men's and women's teams. Portions of the proceeds from Saturday's "Kick Out Breast Cancer" promotion are going to the American Cancer Society. It is part of a larger effort by Dominican's Penguin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (PSAAC) in November's "DU Work Against Breast Cancer," which is helping to raise awareness about and funds for the fight against breast cancer.

The Lady Penguins will play their final home game of the season on Thursday, November 4 when Dixie State College visits. Kickoff at Forest Meadows Field is slated for 2:30 p.m. with a pregame ceremony taking place to honor the team's five seniors: Rita Caskey, Christine Coleman, Bridget Folan, Michelle Mason, and Marli Sangervasi.
