Buckley, Foder Finish Careers for ESU Women’s Soccer in 2-1 Loss to Bloomsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior forward Lindsay Foder scored with 6:58 left and nearly netted the game-tying goal two minutes later, but Bloomsburg held off East Stroudsburg University for a 2-1 win in the Warriors’ final game of the 2010 season on Saturday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Lauren Stedman scored in the 57th minute and Katie Walczuk converted in the 68th minute for Bloomsburg (12-3-3, 10-3-1), which will enter next week’s PSAC tournament as the No. 4 seed. Frances Nicoletti made five saves for the Huskies.

Foder scored her third goal of the season and the 21st of her career to make it 2-1 and had another chance late in the game that was turned away as the Warriors (8-9-1, 5-9) bid for a dramatic comeback on the final night of the season.

Foder and fellow senior Kailyn Buckley were recognized before the game. Both seniors finish their careers ranked in the top 10 in school history in points and assists and were All-PSAC East and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selections.

Buckley started 79 of the 80 games the Warriors played over the past four seasons as ESU posted a 43-29-8 record with three PSAC tournament appearances and the first NCAA tournament win in school history in 2008. She is 10th at ESU with 45 career points, tied for ninth with 13 assists and scored 16 goals.

Foder finishes sixth in career goals (21), tied for sixth in assists (16) and sixth in points (58) and made 73 career starts. She earned All-Region recognition as a sophomore and junior and was a first team Academic All-District pick last fall.

The Warriors finish their fourth season under head coach Rob Berkowitz with nine starters slated to return in 2011, along with the return of All-Region back Carly Collins, who missed this season with a medical redshirt.

Sophomore Bridget Connell scored a team-high four goals and junior Melissa Myers and Nicki Keiser split time in goal. Myers made 13 starts and had five saves against Bloomsburg, and Keiser had three shutouts in five starts and posted a 0.42 goals against average over the final month of the season.
