SPOKANE, Wash. (Dec. 13) – Alaska Anchorage forward Alysa Horn was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s co-Player of the Week for women’s basketball on Monday after helping the Seawolves to a pair of victories in their own AT&T Hoops Classic over the weekend.
The sophomore from Kodiak averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals while shooting 53 percent (10 of 19) from the floor in victories over Minot State and previously unbeaten Dixie State.
In Saturday’s 68-53 win over Dixie State, Horn scored 13 of her career-high 20 points in the first half to help UAA race to a 38-23 halftime lead. She shot 3 of 5 from three-point range, 3 of 4 from the free-throw line, equaled her career-highs with 11 rebounds, and set a career-best with two blocks against the Red Storm.
It is the first career GNAC weekly honor for Horn and the second for a Seawolf this season (Hanna Johansson, Nov. 8-14). Horn shared this week’s honor with Seattle Pacific’s Caitlyn Rohrbach.
The Seawolves return to action Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (3 p.m.) when they close the non-conference season with a pair of home games against Chaminade.
