EAST STROUDSBURG – Freshman swimmer Allison Schafer has been named East Stroudsburg University’s Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week for her school record-breaking performance in the 500 free at the Grove City Winter Invitational on December 3.
Schafer (Spring City/Owen J. Roberts) knocked more than three seconds off the 25-year old record set by Jackie Rulon in 1985. She finished in 5:16.27 to best Rulon’s previous mark of 5:19.60.
Schafer also turned in the second-fastest time in school history in the 400 IM (4:48.09) and the third-fastest in the 200 fly (2:15.40) in the last 15 years. Christine Swiker, last year’s ESU Female Senior Athlete of the Year, holds both school records.
The Warriors will head to Florida for their annual winter training trip in early January before resuming their dual schedule the week before the start of the second semester.
