Powers leads Grizzly men's soccer team awards

ALAMOSA, Colo.- After tying for the team lead in goals and scoring the game-winning goal in the Grizzlies' historic Oct.15  win over Colorado Christian, Adams State College senior David Powers (Fairbanks, Alaska) has been named as the MVP of the Grizzly men's soccer team while highlighting the list of post-season team awards that were recently awarded at the team's post-season banquet.

Powers, who played in all but one game of the Grizzlies' first two years, also led the 2010 edition of the Grizzlies with 22 shots and scored two goals while assisting on another this season.

Meanwhile, junior Joseph Jallow (Oldjeshwang, Gambia), who led the team in points with seven while matching Powers with two goals this season, was named as the Offensive MVP while Tyler Corbin (Mancos, Colo.), also with the Grizzlies from the program's start in 2009, was tabbed as the team's Defensive MVP.

Freshman Hawken Hanna (Haslett, Mich.) received the Most Improved Player Award while Raul Sanchez (Alliance, Neb.) received the Hustle Award.

Freshman goalkeeper Dillon Lee (Arvada, Colo.) also received an award for setting both the single-season and career saves record (98) while fellow freshman net-minder Paul Pizza (Alamosa, Colo.) was honored for recording the first goalkeeper win in ASC history as he helped the Grizzlies pick up their 3-1 triumph in October.
