Weber’s Double-Double Not Enough
Mankato, Minn.— Minnesota State and 17th-ranked Augustana met at the Taylor Center on Saturday for the 59th time Saturday afternoon and the Vikings came away with a 69-55 victory.
With both teams coming off of a loss yesterday, Augustana jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game. The Mavericks retaliated with a 9-2 run, knotting the score at 11 six minutes into the game.
The Vikings would reopen a lead – one it would not relinquish however the Mavericks did not go away.
A stingy Maverick defense held Augustana without a field goal for the final five minutes of the first half as it trimmed the AC lead to 38-26 at the break.
Viking forward Liz Helsper, led all scorers in the first half with 17 points. The Mavericks shot 37 percent from the floor while the Vikings hit on 55 percent of its opportunities.
AC scored 26 points in the paint in the first half, as the Mavericks scored 15 points inside the paint. The Vikings capitalized with 14 points on turnovers off the Mavericks.
Minnesota State came out with some fire in the second half as junior center Laura Weber scored six points during the Mavericks 7-0 run, cutting the deficit to 40-34. The Vikings would score on a Kristi Board jumper, ending a 9:24 field goal drought.
After the Mavericks cut the lead to 42-36, the Vikings used a 9-2 run to open a 51-38 advantage marking the last time MSU was within single-digits in the contest.

The Vikings hot shooting continued in the second half as they finished hitting on 36 percent of their opportunities while MSU shot just 36 percent from the floor.
Weber finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds earning her first double-double of the season and fourth of her career. Junior Jennie Noreen was the only other Maverick in double figures with 10 points.
Minnesota State is now 0-2 in the NSIC and 3-3 overall. MSU will return to action next weekend as they will take on Concordia Friday at 5:30 p.m. and St. Cloud State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
