Grand Canyon Men's Basketball team to give clinic, support to needy

Grand Canyon University’s men’s basketball team will provide a basketball clinic and support to families at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, located in downtown Phoenix, Dec. 21.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international non-profit organization dedicated to serving the poor and providing others with the opportunity to serve. The GCU basketball team took part in “Finding My Shoes”, a program that provides shoes and other necessities to the needy, at St. Vincent de Paul in October.

On Dec. 21 at 2:15 p.m., the team will hold a basketball clinic for homeless guests at the Human Services Campus. After the clinic, the team will help with the Christmas Party and Family Evening Meal, which serves about 800 persons and aides close to 250 families; at the Watkins Campus beginning at 4:15 p.m. Players will serve as chaperones for families as the children receive their Christmas gifts.

In addition, GCU will send a bus to the campus and pick up residents to come to the Dec. 30 home basketball game with Southwestern College. GCU will serve the residents a pregame dinner.
