ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s Tyler Batts (Homestead, Pa./Penn-Trafford) produced 73 yards of total offense for the North team during a 13-12 last-minute loss in the 2010 FCS Senior Scout Bowl held last Saturday (December 11) in Middleton, New York.
Batts was the North’s leading receiver with six catches for 40 yards, averaging 6.7 yards per reception. The senior tailback finished second on the team in rushing with 33 yards on seven carries. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry with a long of 24 yards.
The North team led for the majority of the game due to four field goals from Central Connecticut State’s Joe Izzo. However, the South team scored the game-winning touchdown with one minute left in the fourth quarter.
Batts was the only non-NCAA Division I-AA player on the North Team. Three NCAA Division II players were invited to play on the South Team. The remainder of both rosters was filled with NCAA Division I-AA players. The week of the FCS Senior Scout Bowl featured a series of practices in front of professional scouts, before the actual game kicked off December 11.
Batts was Gannon leading rusher and receiver in 2010. He ranked eighth among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) players and 73rd among all NCAA Division II players in rushing yards per game (69.4). His senior season statistics included 197 carries, 763 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, 32 receptions, 279 receiving yards and 1,083 all-purpose yards. He recorded the fifth-highest single-season all-purpose total in school history, the 10th-highest single-season rushing mark and the 11th-highest single-season reception total.
The Homestead, Pa., native concluded his two-year collegiate career 10th all-time at Gannon in rushing yards (1,250), 10th in all-purpose yards (2,144) and 16th in total offense (1,250).
