Rock Hill, S.C.----The South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week have been announced for the week ending Oct. 30, 2010. Wingate University redshirt senior place kicker RP Lopez (Lakeland, Fla.) was named the SAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Lopez receives this distinction for the second time in his career.
Lopez had his second conference game-winning kick of the season as Wingate defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University 27-24 Saturday afternoon. Lopez hit a 25-yard field goal with 3:48 remaining to break a 24-24 tie. On Saturday, he had two field goals and three extra points. He also hit a game-winning field goal against Carson-Newman College earlier this year.
On the 2010 season, Lopez has not missed a kick. He is eight-for-eight on field goals and 28-for-28 on extra points. He is the only SAC kicker who can make this claim. In 2009, he set the school record for extra points in a season with 40. The Bulldogs remain tied for first place in the SAC, improving to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the league.
