Georgia College Trifecta Leads to 67-58 Victory Over St. Augustine’s

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Bobcat women’s basketball team (5-0) made it five-straight as they defeated St. Augustine’s College (4-2) 67-58 Saturday, getting three players in double figures in game three of the 2010 Chick-Fil-A Thanksgiving Classic hosted by North Georgia. Seniors Dominique Huffin (Tucker, Ga.) and Chimere Jordan (Gray, Ga.) along with sophomore Karisma Boykin (Carrollton, Ga.) all scored in double-digits for Georgia College.

Huffin and Jordan scored 17 apiece and Boykin had a Georgia College career-high with 15 points. Huffin snagged seven boards, five on the defensive glass and Boykin added eight assists, marking the third time she has recorded at least eight assists on the season.

For the two-day effort, Jordan was named the tournament’s MVP, with Huffin also taking a spot on the five-member all-tournament team.

Freshman forward Abby Slocumb (Suwanee, Ga.) contributed “crazy eights” of her own, scoring eight and recording eight rebounds, a career-high.

Huffin moved into fourth place in Georgia College history in three-point field goals made as she knocked down three against the Falcons. The senior has 150 in her career, jumping ahead of Betsy Foy (1999-2002) who had 149. Huffin is also making her way toward the 1,000-point club at 984.

At the end of the first 20 minutes, the Bobcats were ahead of St. Augustine’s College (SAC) 39-32 as Jordan hit a shot from downtown right before time expired.

The Falcons won the rebound battle 47-30 and points in paint 16-12. GC forced 16 turnovers and for the fifth-straight game held the opponent to under .330 from the floor as SAC shot 20-of-66 (.303) from the field and an abysmal 2-of-18 (.111) from behind the three-point line. The Bobcats shot .471 (24-51) from the floor and .375 (6-16) from behind three-point land.

Keyona Bryant and Allison Sikes both recorded double-doubles for the Falcons as Bryant had 25 points and 17 rebounds with Sikes adding 18 points and 11 boards.

The Bobcats return home to square off against No. 3 Lander University Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in this season’s opening Peach Belt Conference (PBC) match-up for GC.
