WALTHAM, Mass. - Five members of the Bentley University swimming and diving teams, including senior Emily Travers (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS), have recently been cited by the Northeast-10 Conference for weekly honors.
Travers was chosen as the NE-10 Women’s Diver of the Week on both Nov. 16 and 23. She received the second honor after winning both diving events in a dual meet with UMass-Dartmouth, with scores of 221.84 on the one-meter board and 249.37 on the three-meter.
Eight days earlier, Travers qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships off both boards during a diving-only meet with Tufts. She was first of three in the three-meter with a school record score of 449.10 for 11 dives, and was second of four in the one-meter, with a 409.55.
Senior Michael Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) was named the Northeast-10 Men’s Diver of the Week for the period ending Nov. 22. He recorded season-bests in both diving events against UMass-Dartmouth, with a winning effort in the three-meter (258.12) and a second-place showing in the one-meter (221.40).
Freshman Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) was named the NE-10 Men’s Rookie of the Week on Nov. 16. In a win over Gordon, he touched the wall first in all three events her swam, with times of 22.91 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle, 50.90 in the 100 free and 1:00.13 in the 100 individual medley.
Senior Jon Andrews (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS), who earned Division II All-America accolades in 2009, received NE-10 Men’s Diver of the Week honors on Nov. 9. In a meet with Le Moyne College, he was first in the six-dive optional (203.55) and second in the five-dive event (171.90).
Freshman Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) was a triple-winner in the same meet, a performance that earned her NE-10 Women’s Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 9. She was a triple-winner in her collegiate debut, touching first in the 100 free (56.58), the 200 free (2:01.86) and the 500 free (5:29.72). She also helped the Falcons take second in the 200 free relay (1:44.71), swimming a closing leg of 25.49.
Bentley’s next action is the Northeast-10 Invitational Dec. 4-5 at home.
