Cold Shooting Night Hampers UIS

SPRINGFIELD – 38 percent shooting from the floor and 20 turnovers committed by the Illinois-Springfield men’s basketball team were the culprit in Monday’s 72-53 loss to Hillsdale. Leading the Prairie Stars was junior #Lester Hart#, who had a team-high 11 points.

Early on the game was nip and tuck, but a 7-0 run by Hillsdale gave them a lead they wouldn’t lose. UIS continued to show fight, getting the lead into single digits twice late in the first period, but a 6-1 run by the Chargers pushed the advantage back over double figures.

After the intermission, UIS crept back near a single digit deficit after senior #Steffen Spinks# scored two of his five points. However, nearly just as quick the Chargers push their lead over 20.

The Prairie Stars midway through the final 20 minutes got going thanks to an 8-1 run, which saw three different UIS student-athletes score and they also forced Hillsdale into a pair of turnovers.

Behind Hart’s 11 points, sophomore #Chigozie Umeadi# and senior #Brandon Farmer# each had 10 points, while Umeadi also grabbed a team-best six rebounds. For Hillsdale, Brad Guinane led all scores and rebounds with an 18 and 10 performance.

The next action for UIS is Thursday when it entertains Roberts Morris-Springfield beginning at 7:30 p.m.
