CCAA Cross Country Championships Set for Saturday

WALNUT CREEK - The 2010 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships are scheduled to take place Saturday, Nov. 6, at Whittier Narrows Regional Park in South El Monte.

The eight-kilometer men’s race will start at 9 a.m., while the women’s six-kilometer event begins at 10 a.m.

Chico State enters as the defending champion in both the men’s and women’s events after capturing the 2009 titles in McKinleyville.

The team championship marked the eighth in a row for Chico State, which was led by individual champion Jimmy Elam. The Chico State senior ran the course in a time of 24:50.3.

The Wildcat women have won six of the last eight CCAA titles. Cal State L.A.'s Vivien Wadeck became only the second female in the history of the CCAA Championships to repeat as conference champion after completing the course in a time of 21:52.6. Amy Harper of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo won back-to-back titles in 1982 and 1983.

The Chico State men enter the conference championships as the West Region's top-ranked team, while its women are the second-ranked team in the West.
