TURLOCK, Calif. - Cal State Dominguez Hills received scoring from three different players and defeated Chico State 3-0 in a semifinal match of the 2010 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer Tournament at Warrior Stadium in Turlock on Friday.
The win sets up a championship rematch for the fourh consecutive year with Sonoma State, which edged Cal State San Bernardino, 1-0, earlier in the day. The Toros (14-4-2) are seeking their eighth CCAA title and fourth in the last five years, while the Seawolves (13-5-1) are searching for their third conference crown and first since 2008.
Chico State, which is ranked No. 2 in the West Region and remains in contention for an NCAA Tournament at-large bid, fell to 13-6 on the season.
The contest between Cal State Dominguez Hills and Chico State was scoreless until the 34:06 mark when Scott Locken scored off a deflection following a corner kick.
The Toros held a 9-5 shot advantage at halftime before dominating the second half.
Senior forward Jordan Rover extended Cal State Dominguez Hills' lead to 2-0 when he received a pass from Billy Gutierrez and scored from 21 yards on a breakaway at the 57:43 mark.
The Toros' final score came in the 89th minute when Alex Munoz scored off a missed shot by Diego Turoldo and gave Cal State Dominguez Hills a 3-0 lead.
The Toros finished the match with a 24-7 shot advantage, including an 8-1 edge in shots-on-goal.
In the only previous meeting between Cal State Dominguez Hills and Sonoma State this season, the Toros posted a 3-0 victory in Carson on October 17.
