Kourtney Alexander scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds for Albany State, but it was not enough as the Lady Rams lost 52-61 to Rollins College. The Albany State men also fell short in their efforts for a win during the two-day Florida Tech Tip-Off Challenge in Melbourne, Fla. De'Andre Johnson led the Golden Rams with 14 points in ASU's 57-72 loss to the University of Tampa.
In the women's game, the freshman guard was the only Lady Ram to score in double figures. Alexander shot 7-of-15 from the field, including five three-point shots. Junior forward Precious Peak was 2-for-2 in shooting and hit 5-of-5 from the free-throw line to score nine points for the Lady Rams. Senior forward Callie Hamilton and junior center Quinette Johnson grabbed seven rebounds each for the Lady Rams. The Lady Rams were 19-for-58 in shooting from the field and shot 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. The team was down 39-26 at the half, but outscored Rollins 26-22 in the second half.
Jasmine Bradley scored 12 points to lead Rollins.
A sophomore guard, Johnson paced the Golden Rams with 14 points, shooting 4-for-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. Junior forward Demarcus Blunt added 12 points, shooting 2-for-6 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Junior guard Marcus Benitez hit 4-of-10 from the field, including two three-point shots, to score 10 points for the Golden Rams. Albany State shot 17-of-49 from the field and 15-24 from the free-throw line. The Golden Rams took a one-point deficit (32-31) at halftime, but trailed 26-40 in the second half.
Callum Townsend scored 15 points for Tampa.
The Lady Rams will make their home debut against the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at ASU’s HPER Gymnasium. The Golden Rams will travel to Valdosta, Ga. to take on the Valdosta State University Blazers on Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Both teams will tipoff SIAC action at home against the Miles College Golden Bears on Nov. 27.
