WINTER PARK, Fla. - The No. 7-ranked Rollins College Tars scored two unanswered goals to pick up a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday evening in a clash of Top 10-ranked squads.
The Pirates wrap up the regular season with a 12-2-2 mark heading into next week's Peach Belt Conference tournament, while Rollins improved to 10-3-2 on the season.
Armstrong opened up the scoring in the 13th minute as Erin Holt's initial shot was saved by Rollins keeper Michelle Dillingham. Nadima Skeff put the rebound into the back of the net for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The Pirates kept their 1-0 lead well into the second half, but the homestanding Tars struck for the equalizer in the 76th minute as Leah Hirsch converted a free kick from 20 yards out to make the score 1-1.
The match then went into overtime, and AASU had a great chance just 65 seconds into overtime, but Dillingham saved a shot from the Pirates' Emily Cattanach.
Less than a minute from the match going to a second overtime period, Rollins claimed the match winner as Charlotte Murrell pounced on a loose ball in the box and slotted a shot inside the left corner.
Rollins outshot the Pirates, 9-7, on the match and Dillingham made four saves in net for the Tars, while Tracey Mitchell made six saves in net for the Pirates.
Armstrong had four corner kicks, compared to two for the Tars, and each team was whistled offsides twice.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday, November 2, hosting a first-round Peach Belt Conference tournament match at 3:00 p.m. against Clayton State at the AASU Soccer Field.
