(Winona, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team traveled from Fayette, Iowa to Winona, Minn. to close out an NSIC volleyball weekend double-header. The Golden Eagles went down 2-0 and with their backs against the wall rallied for a third set victory before Winona State took the fourth set for a 3-1 victory (25-17, 25-15, 22-25, 25-15).
The Golden Eagles were led by Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, So., Burlington, Wis.) who tallied nine kills on 42 attacks. The duo of Alexandra Skeeter (OH, 5-10, Fr., Milwaukee, Wis.) and Katie Miedtke (MH, 5-10, Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) finished with eight kills each. Miedtke also led UMC with a .300 (8K-2E-20TA) attack percentage. Shannon Cologna (S, 5-8, Sr, Peoria, Ariz.) earned 29 assists in the match and added six defensive digs. Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) led UMC defenders with 24 defensive digs and added a game-high three service aces.
Winona State was led by Kathy Lohff who earned 17 kills and an outstanding .469 (17K-2E-32TA) attack percentage. Elena Kruesel led the Warrior setters with 26 assists and Shannon McGowan led all players with 33 defensive digs.
The Golden Eagles are 0-23 overall and 0-15 in NSIC play. Winona State advances to 11-13 overall and 6-10 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston returns to action on Tuesday, November 2 to host Minnesota State, Mankato. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
