Alabama-Huntsville women's soccer wins final road contest of 2010 over Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Behind a hat trick from junior midfielder Luting Sun (Chicago), the Alabama-Huntsville (8-7) women's soccer team downed homestanding Georgia Southwestern (4-12) 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in Americus, Ga.

Sun got the Lady Chargers going early in the seventh minute of action when the junior stepped up and drilled a free kick from 23 yards out at 6:56 of the game.  The Lady Hurricanes answered back exactly 12 minutes later when Hayley Knight scored for the home team.

UAH then rattled off four-unanswered scores including three in the first half. Sun put UAH back in front at 25:12 scoring off a set corner-kick play as senior midfielder Ashley MacWhirter (Red Deer, Alberta) took the corner kick and Sun put the ball in the back of the net.

Junior forward Courtney Mayers (Chandler, Ariz.) setup UAH's next goal at 30:53 sending a cross to sophmore striker Cady Reisman (Memphis), who punched the ball in the net for the 3-1 margin.  Sun then completed her hat trick putting home a rebound off a shot by senior defender Lindsay Lee (Vernon, British Columbia) at 38:56 giving UAH a 4-1 lead heading into the half.

After the barrage of scoring in the first half, the second half was quiet until the 82nd minute when Mayers split the Hurricanes defense and beat the Georgia Southwestern keeper.  The strike came at 82:21 with an assist from sophomore midfielder Bethany Keefer (Ellicott, Md.).

The Hurricanes managed to score late with 21 seconds remaining as Courtney Simpson scored for the home team to make it a 5-2 final.

Sophomore keeper Lauren Kelly (Huntsville) had a light afternoon of duty in net only making one stop to earn the win.  Amber Bahri took the loss for GSWU stopping five shots.

The Lady Chargers wrap up the 2010 season on Monday hosting Shorter for "Senior Day" at Charger Field at Noon.
