AMERICUS, Ga. -- Rallying from a 2-0 deficit, the Alabama-Huntsville (4-11) men's soccer team downed homestanding Georgia Southwestern (2-13) 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in Americus, Ga.
The Hurricanes opened the scoring at 28:51 of the first half when Sam Hooke scored for Georgia Southwestern. GSU's Sean Howe increased the Hurricane's lead just under 10 minutes later at 37:56 making it a 2-0 lead.
The Chargers managed to get on the scoreboard early in the second half when junior forward Jarrod Muggleton (Sydney, Australia) took a penalty kick that was initially saved but the UAH captain banged home his own rebound at 56:55 to make it a 2-1 game.
The game held at 2-1 until the final five minutes of play when another Hurricanes foul led to another UAH goal. This time Muggleton took a quick start off a free kick and scored from just outside the box as the reigning GSC Offensive Player of the Week netted his sixth goal of the season.
UAH then took the game in overtime when Muggleton again played a big role getting a through ball to sophomore striker Tony Stock (Lewisville, Texas), who chipped the ball over the GSWU keeper's head for the 3-2 win.
Charger senior keeper Tyler Earley (Norman, Okla.) picked up the win in net for UAH with a five-save effort. David Porley took the loss for the Hurricane's stopping seven UAH scoring attempts.
The Chargers return home for "Senior Day" on Monday hosting Shorter at 2:30 p.m. before heading the Gulf South Conference Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., on Friday.
