Turnovers and Shooting Downfall for UIS

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – For the second time in as many games junior Michael Fakuade had a double-double, but it wasn’t enough for the Illinois-Springfield men’s basketball team, as it fell to Drury Thursday evening in GLVC action 92-62.

The first half was anything but kind for UIS (3-3, 0-1), as it shot just 37 percent from the field and also turned the ball over 12 times. The Prairie Stars were held without a point for the first four minutes of the game, while the UIS defense held a struggling Drury (5-1, 1-0) team to just seven early points.

UIS quickly got back into the game, thanks in part to an 8-4 run that got the Prairie Stars within three (11-8). The Panthers though would quickly go up nine, but UIS again showed no quit getting the score within four.

However, Drury would go on a 10-0 run, before a Fakuade jumper ended UIS’ shooting drought.

In the second half, UIS looked as though it was going to get back into game after falling down by 21. The Prairie Stars used a 7-2 run to get the score to 59-43, but a 15-8 run by the Panthers put UIS down 24 with 7:33 left.

For the game, UIS shot 33 percent from the field (20-for-60) with 24 turnovers, while Drury was 29-of-60 with 15 miscues.

Individually for UIS, Fakuade scored a team-high 15 points, while pulling down a game-best 13 rebounds. Classmate Lester Hart and senior Brandon Farmer were also in double figures for the Prairie Stars, as they had 13 and 11 points respectively.

The next action for UIS is Saturday afternoon at Missouri S&T with tip-off slated to go up at 3:30 p.m.
