Saint Michael's Field Hockey Falls To AIC, 2-0, On Senior Day

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s field hockey team (3-15, 1-9 NE-10) lost 2-0 to #10 American International in the final game of the 2010 season at Duffy Field on Saturday. Four seniors concluded their careers for the Purple Knights, and were honored during pre-game ceremonies : Natalie Elvidge (Newton, N.J./Newton), Kaleigh Ferrari (Millbrook, N.Y./The Millbrook School), Olivia Hoeppner (Shelburne Falls, Mass./Mohawk Trail Regional), and Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth).

For the Yellow Jackets (13-6, 8-2 NE-10), junior Jessica Hall (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) scored the game’s first goal just three minutes in off a penalty corner. Junior Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn./Branford) tallied an insurance goal in the 26th minute, and the AIC defense took care of the rest. The Yellow Jackets held the Purple Knights scoreless for the 11th time this season.

Junior Taylor Wahrenbrock (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) had the best chance for Saint Michael’s in the second half when she challenged AIC goalie Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls) as she charged out of the cage for a rolling ball. Steiner blocked the ball just as Wahrenbrock fired a shot toward her right goalie pad.

McLaughlin made nine saves in her final contest, and Steiner stopped the only shot she encountered.
