Midwestern State's Freeland named D2 Sports Insider Men's Soccer Player of the Week


Midwestern State's David Freeland has been named the D2 Sports Insider Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending November 21st.

In the NCAA quarterfinal, Freeland was outstanding registering his first career hat trick, including his third game winning goal of the season, to lead No. 2 Midwestern State to a 5-0 victory over Chico State.

Freeland is currently second in team scoring with 25 points including 11 goals and three assists.

The Mustangs now advance to the NCAA Final Four.

Florida Tech's Eliasdottir named D2 Sports Insider Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Florida Tech junior goalkeeper Mist Eliasdottir has been named the D2 Sports Insider Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending November 21st.

Eliasdottir was stellar in goal leading the Panthers to their first-ever trip to the NCAA Final Four.

In two games, she allowed just two goals, while registering 11 saves for an outstanding 0.82 goals against average and an .846 save percentage.

In the NCAA South Region Final against Tampa, Eliasdottir turned away two shots in shootout and in the quarterfinal round versus Lenoir-Rhyne she recorded one save. To top off her weekly performance, she volunteered to take the Panthers’ sixth penalty kick in their shootout against the Bears and buried it evening up the shootout.

West Liberty's Harris named D2 Sports Insider Football Player of the Week

West Texas A&M quarterback Taylor Harris has been named the D2 Sports Insider Football Player of the Week for the week ending November 14th.

This past week, the senior quarterback led the Buffs to a 52-21 victory over East Central to close out the 2010 regular season.

Harris enjoyed a career day, completing 43 of 65 passes for 605 yards, all single-game career highs. He also tied a career high with five touchdown passes and did not throw an interception.

The Buffaloes improve to 8-3 overall, 8-2 LSC, while ECU closes out their season at 5-6, 5-5 LSC.

West Liberty's Amedro named D2 Sports Insider Football Player of the Week

West Liberty University quarterback Zach Amedro has been named the D2 Sports Insider Football Player of the Week for the week ending November 7th.

Amedro etched his name into the national, conference and school record books one more time in his illustrious career by tossing a West Virginia Conference-record eight touchdown passes in the Hilltoppers 82-36 rout of Seton Hill this past week. The 82 points are the most by any Division II school this season.

Amedro completed 33-of-44 passes for 525 yards, breaking the all-time Division II mark set by Jimmy Terwilliger of East Stroudsburg (Pa) from 2003-06. Amedro now owns every West Liberty passing record with one more game remaining on the schedule.

Amedro pushed his NCAA Division II career record passing total to 14,377 yards and also moved up on several other national charts. It was his 29th 300-yard passing game and 28th 300-yard total offense game – both NCAA Division II records – while his career average of 334.3 passing yards per game is also an all-time NCAA Division II best. The Hilltopper signalcaller is now No. 2 in the NCAA Division Ii record books in career completions (1,045), career touchdown passes (124) and total offense yards per game (331.5) and No. 3 all-time in total offense (14,253). His 8 TD passes shattered one of the oldest records on the WVIAC and West Liberty books. The previous WVIAC mark of 7 TD passes was set by the Hilltoppers’ Mike Flannery, now the head coach at River High School, in a triple-overtime game against West Virginia State in 1975.

Concordia University's Konetchy named D2 Sports Insider Volleyball Player of the Week

Concordia University freshman setter Amanda Konetchy has been named the D2 Sports Insider Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending November 7th.

This past week, the nation's assist leader led the Golden Bears to two 3-0 victories over Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State In those two matches she recorded 76 assists and 20 digs including her sixth double-double of the season.

This week Konetchy was also named the NSIC Freshman of the Year. In her freshman campaign, she has led CU to the top hitting percentage in the NSIC with only two other teams in the AVCA's Top-25 have a better hitting percentage.

In 27 matches this season, Konetchy has recorded 1177 assists and 176 digs averaging 12.93 assists and 1.93 digs per game. She has seven matches with over 50 assists including a career high 61 against Minnesota State Mankato. Konetchy was also named the NSIC Setter of the Week four times this season.

Tusculum's Bo Cordell named D2 Sports Insider Football Player of the Week


Tusculum College quarterback Bo Cordell has been named the D2 Sports Insider Football Player of the Week.

This past week, the 6-1, 195-pound sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, passed for 408 yards and school and SAC single-game record seven touchdowns in the Pioneers’ 51-35 win over Brevard College.  The Indian Hill High School graduate went 38-for-55 with no interceptions and set a TC record for five TD tosses in the first half alone.

Cordell has passed for over 400 passing yards in eight consecutive games this season, which is a new league record and one of the longest runs in NCAA Division II history.

The 2009 SAC Offensive Freshman of the Year has passed for 32 touchdowns this year, which are the second most in school history and tied for fourth-best by a SAC quarterback.  His 321 completions this season are a new TC single-season record and second most in the league record book.

The 2010 Harlon Hill Trophy candidate is averaging 416.4 passing yards per game, which is the best in the nation for all NCAA divisions (FBS, FCS, II, III).

Cordell has tallied 55 career TD passes, which are already second most in school history.  In Saturday's win, he also recorded his 7,000th career passing yard, becoming only the second TC signal caller in school history to achieve that milestone (7,206).

Merrimack's Cindric named D2 Sports Insider Volleyball Player of the Week

Merrimack's Molly Cindric has been named the D2 Sports Insider Volleyball Player of the Week.

Cindric, who was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week for the third straight week, notched double-doubles in all three matches this past week leading her team to three straight victories, beating Southern NH 3-1, Pace 3-1, and Adelphi 3-0. 

In three matches, Cindric recorded 65 kills and 42 digs which included a career-high 31 kills in the victory over Pace. For the week she averaged 5.91 kills and 3.82 digs per set, while hitting .293 for the week.

She currently leads the team with 303 kills and 259 digs.
